Monument rules in plain English

  • Only one monument may be erected on a single lot; one flat marker may also go at the end of the grave farthest from the monument, or a flat marker may be used instead of a monument.
  • Monuments are only allowed on lots designated for monuments, not in "Flat Markers only" areas. Book or pillow markers are allowed only in designated areas.
  • Single lot: monument maximum 48 in (4 ft) high [1.2 m].
  • Double lot: monument maximum 72 in (6 ft) high (the bylaw lists the metric as 1.2 m, so confirm the limit with the office).
  • Single lot flat marker: maximum 24 x 18 in [.6 x .45 m].
  • Cremation and infant lots: up to 2 stones, each maximum 16 x 10 in [.4 x .25 m].
  • Flat markers and footstones must be at least 4 in thick [10 cm], flat on top and set level with the ground; the cemetery sets them after the fee is paid.
  • Only bronze or granite markers, monuments and footstones are permitted. Bronze markers must sit on a granite base of at least the same size and at least 4 in [10 cm] deep.
  • Monuments go at the centre of the head end of the lot unless alignment with nearby monuments justifies otherwise; location must be approved before setting.
  • Statues may only be placed at the sides of the monument on a common base and no more than 6 in above the top of the die.
  • Candleholders and vases must be mainly bronze or stainless steel; maximum two on the base, counted in the overall size, drained and fully enclosed with a door or lid.
  • All foundations are built by the cemetery (or its contractor) at the rights holder's expense; monuments are not delivered until the foundation is complete.
  • Written approval of design, dimensions, material and location is required, plus a Request for Memorial Installation form; all charges must be paid first and a Care and Maintenance Fund amount is payable on installation.
  • Every monument and marker must have the SECTION – RANGE – GRAVE numbers inscribed in the lower right-hand corner.
  • Wooden crosses as monuments, borders, fences, railings and coping are not allowed. Niche and crypt fronts are inscribed by the cemetery.
  • Always confirm with the cemetery office before ordering.
