Monument rules in plain English
- Monument designs (with dimensions, material and finish) must be submitted to the Manager and approved before foundations are ordered; applications are signed by the rights holder and the monument dealer.
- Only one upright monument per lot, plus one optional 16 x 10 inch flat marker.
- Upright monuments go in the upright memorial section; the die must be at least 6 in thick (veterans' DVA monuments excepted) and may not overhang the base.
- Bases must be granite or marble, at least 8 in thick, ideally with a 3 in margin around the die.
- Maximum base lengths: single grave 30 in, two grave plot 60 in, three grave plot 96 in, four grave plot 132 in, five grave plot 168 in.
- Pillow markers: max 8 in above ground with the back about 2 in higher than the front. Sizes: single grave 30 x 14 in (pad 36 x 18), two grave 60 x 14 (pad 66 x 18), three grave 96 x 18 (pad 102 x 20), four grave 132 x 18 (pad 138 x 20).
- Flat markers only in designated areas, set level with the ground, granite or bronze: single grave max 24 x 18 x 4 in; infant and children's graves max 20 x 12 in; cremation lots max 16 x 10 in. Flat markers for two or more graves need the Manager's approval.
- Monuments must be granite or marble only; no artificial or perishable material, sandstone or limestone.
- All foundations are installed by the cemetery at the price-list rate; payment must come with the order at least 15 days before setting. Foundations must be at least the area of the base, or they are rebuilt at the dealer's expense.
- Confirm with the cemetery whether markers go at the head or foot of the grave.
- Back-to-back adult lots may share one monument inscribed on both sides if it stands on one lot; dealer engraving needs a full-scale drawing approved first.
- No lettering on a side facing an adjoining lot unless there's room for a grave in between; inscriptions must suit the dignity of the cemetery.
- Optional corner posts: bronze, granite or marble, 6 in square and at least 6 in deep, set level by the cemetery.
- Candleholders must be bronze and only beside the base of an upright monument; in flat-marker areas a candleholder can be built into a bronze marker instead of a vase.
- Temporary funeral home markers may stay up to 1 month after interment. No memorials of any kind in the common ground.
- Outdoor columbarium niches use only markers and vases supplied and installed by the cemetery; niche lettering is ordered through the cemetery.
- Always confirm with the cemetery office before ordering.
Bylaws can change and some are read automatically. Always confirm sizes with the cemetery office before ordering. Monaco Monuments checks your cemetery's rules for you as part of every order.
