Cynthia Gertrude Tappay
Cynthia Gertrude Tappay (née Burleigh) of Whitby, Ontario, passed away on May 3, 2024, at the age of 87, at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. Born on May 15, 1936, in Kingston, Ontario, to the late Dr. Herbert C. Burleigh and his wife, Dorothy (née Howard), she was the beloved mother of Katherine (Kim) Kavluk and Melissa Tappay. She was a treasured grandmother of Kimberly (Shiv), Jeff (Sarah), Karina, Liam, and Luke. Cynthia was predeceased by her husband, Robert (Bob) Tappay; her sister, Diane (Peter) MacKinnon; and her brothers, John Burleigh and Peter (Evelyn) Burleigh. She is lovingly remembered by her sister-in-law, Joan Burleigh of Kingston, and her brother-in-law, Garry Tappay and his wife, Agnes of Niagara Falls, as well as nieces, nephews, and cherished friends. Cynthia spent many happy years working as a librarian and was a passionate amateur genealogist. The family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff who cared for Cynthia at Sunnybrook Hospital. Cremation has taken place, and a private burial will follow in the near future. Donations in Cynthia's memory may be made to the Shades of Hope Wildlife Refuge.
