William "Bill" Angus MERRITT
William 'Bill' Angus Merritt passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026, at the age of 76, at his home in Welland, Ontario, surrounded by loved ones. Born on January 18, 1950, in Scarborough, Ontario, Bill traveled widely in his youth and attended Guelph University, where he graduated with a degree in soils science and resource management. He worked for Ontario Hydro, the Department of Agriculture for the Government of Newfoundland, and the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. Bill was an avid gardener, known for his peaceful demeanour, his sense of humour, and his empathy. He was generous with his time, volunteering for many causes that addressed food security, environmentalism, and labour rights. He is survived by his loving wife, Rona; children, Vanessa (Geoff), Justin, Jamie (Cody), Kelsey; grandchild, Danica; former wife, Judith; brother, Jim (Carol), and many relatives and friends who will miss him dearly. He was predeceased by his sister, Joan (John), and his parents, Victor and Ethel. Bill's family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to the radiation team at Juravinski Hospital and all the healthcare professionals who provided Bill with compassion and care. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at Ball's Falls Conservation Area, 3292 Sixth Ave, Lincoln, ON. Donations in Bill's name to the Salvation Army are appreciated.
