Ian D.W. Smith
Ian D.W. Smith passed away on the evening of May 2, 2026, at the age of 101. Born in Woodhaven, Manitoba, he graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1946. He worked as a horticulturalist in Alberta and Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, before moving to Philadelphia to work for the Burpee Seed Co. He then returned to Canada and worked as an agrologist at the Horticultural Research Center in Vineland until his retirement in 1987. Ian met his wife, Gladys, and they had a daughter, Linda. He loved gardening, music, reading, and traveling. Ian is survived by his daughter Linda (Lawrence); grandson Jason (Lauren); granddaughter Kristen (Ed); and great-grandson Carter. He is also survived by Gary and Irene, Barry (Pat), and many others, including staff and friends at Cobblestone. The family would like to thank the staff at Cobblestone and the NF Hospital for their care and support. Donations can be made to Toronto Sick Children's Hospital or the charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
