Viola (Nee Martin) WALLACE
Viola (Nee Martin) Wallace passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at the age of 99. She is survived by her cherished children, Karen Cornies (Ron), and John Wallace, and her sister Ellen Moyer and sister-in-law Shirley Martin. She was a proud grandmother of Kara and Henry. Viola was predeceased by her beloved husband, George (2015), her parents, Annanias and Susanna (Steckle) Martin, her siblings Florence (Aaron) Wideman, Almeda Martin, Lloyd (Gladys) Martin, Laura Shantz (Milo), Abner Martin, Nelson Martin, Vernon Martin, and brother-in-law Carson Moyer. She will also be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Viola was born and grew up on a farm in Waterloo, where she had a life filled with singing, siblings, and adventures. She went to Martin's school and in her youth, worked on her grandparents' farm. At 21 she went to school in Toronto and then came back to Kitchener for nurses training at the Kitchener Waterloo Hospital. After a year of nursing, she and two friends went to Alberta as nurses. After 2 years, Viola moved to do a Public Health Nursing course at the University of Toronto. She was a Public Health nurse until marrying George and moving to Ottawa in 1969. In Ottawa she started selling Self Help with the support of a group of volunteers from Ottawa Mennonite Church. In 2003 she and George moved back to Kitchener. Through her life she had a strong faith, and her church community was an anchor for her. She loved singing in choirs, entertaining guests, quilting, sewing, knitting, playing scrabble, puzzles, long walks, and gardening. The family would like to extend special thanks to Ontario Home Health, and especially to the incredible team of nurses who walked alongside Viola these last weeks. Visitation will take place at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo, on Thursday, May 7, 2026, from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. A memorial service will take place at First Mennonite Church, 800 King St. E., Kitchener, on Friday, May 8, 2026, at 11 a.m., with the Rev.
