John Stanley North
John Stanley North, a distinguished professor at the University of Waterloo, passed away on August 10, 2026, at the age of 86, surrounded by his family. Born in Vancouver, he developed a passion for education, music, and animals, which he shared with his family throughout his life. He married his childhood sweetheart, Roberta, in 1962, and they were inseparable for over 63 years. Professor North had a long and fruitful career in teaching and research, specializing in Victorian Studies, Shakespeare, and Children's Literature. He received the Distinguished Teacher Award in 2003 and founded the North Waterloo Academic Press. He is survived by his wife, Roberta, and their sons, Stan, Ken, and Bruce, as well as their spouses, Beverley, Rosie, and Laurie Lynn.
