Joan (Crighton) LOBBAN
Joan (Crighton) Lobban passed away on March 2, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on March 29, 1931, in Shanghai, China, to British parents, Joan's early life was marked by her father's work as a detective with the International Police Force in Shanghai. During World War II, she was interned in a concentration camp on the outskirts of Shanghai at the age of 11. After the war, she left with her family for Australia, where she excelled and graduated from the Presbyterian Ladies' College in NSW. Joan then joined her father in Hong Kong, where she worked as a secretary and played field hockey. She later moved to Singapore to work for Time-Life Magazine, where she made a significant impact. In Singapore, she met William Lobban, and they married on October 12, 1955, at the Raffles Hotel. Together, they spent 65 years as loving partners. Joan and Bill lived in Vancouver, Canada, for eight years before settling in Waterloo, Ontario, in 1964. Joan was an active member of the local community, maintaining her interest in international relations. She opened the Canadian Save the Children's Fund Kitchener-Waterloo Branch in 1967 and served on various committees with the City of Waterloo. Joan was predeceased by her husband, William Lobban.
