Marie Fleurette Louise VERHAEVEN
Marie Fleurette Louise Verhaeven passed away on February 9, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on February 5, 1944, in Lac Masson, Quebec, Marie graduated from nursing school in 1964 and became a registered nurse for Hamilton Civic Hospitals. Within a short period of time, she was promoted to the position of Head Nurse, a job she held until 1969, when she left to start a family. Marie returned to nursing when her children were older and accepted the position of Nurse Manager at Medical Associates, a family practice in Grimsby. After taking early retirement for medical reasons, Marie continued to contribute to the community through her volunteer work. Following her husband Ed's retirement, Marie and Ed travelled a great deal and saw much of the world including the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, Belgium, and North Africa. Marie died peacefully at United Mennonite Home in Vineland, with Ed, her husband of 60 years, near her side. She will be remembered for her kind heart and her great sense of humour. Marie leaves behind her husband, two adult children, her granddaughter, and many friends and other family. A celebration of Marie's life will be hosted by the family in the Spring.
