VELMA (PEGGY) JOYCE SCOTT
Velma (Peggy) Joyce Scott passed away peacefully at her home in Toronto on March 5, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on June 5, 1931, in the parish of St. Ann, Jamaica, she will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. Velma attended Westwood High School in Trelawny and carried with her an adventurous spirit that would shape her remarkable life. In 1965 she immigrated first to New York City before settling in Montreal, where she was part of the close-knit Caribbean community and worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia and the CBC. She moved to Toronto with the CBC in 1966, later transitioning to management at Centenary Hospital until her retirement in 1996. In her retirement years she enjoyed travelling extensively with friends and family. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Shelly-Ann Scott; her brother, Walter H. Scott, and his wife, Keisha, and their children, Astrid, Alex, Liam, and Sarah, as well as many relatives and friends. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Highland Funeral Home Scarborough. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either North York General Hospital or Sick Kids Hospital.
