SUSIE HAWKINS LANGLEY, RD, MS, D.Sc. (HON), passed away peacefully on November 29, 2025, at the age of 85, at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto with family at her side. She was predeceased by her mother, Alice Hawkins Golding, and her father, Jack Golding. She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Wayne; son, Paul Bredderman (Sean Patton); and sister, Jane McIntyre (Norman); nieces and nephews, Donald (Ailish), Tim (Carolyn), and Sara Beveridge (Brad); and nine great-nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Miriam Langley. She is also survived on the Hawkins side by cousins, Carole, Ike, Barrie, Karen, Beecher, and Katherine. Born in Saint John, and raised by her mother in Pennfield, NB, Susie's lifelong love of learning began in a one-room schoolhouse in Pennfield that led to earning a Master of Science degree from Cornell University. In the interim, she followed the family tradition of attending Acadia University, where she earned the Governor General's Medal and her B.Sc., plus a full scholarship to Cornell University. Once she earned her RD, her mission was to make nutrition understandable and practical for everyone. She began her career as a clinical dietitian at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, North Carolina. During that time, she helped develop both a curriculum on dietary assessment for first-year medical students, as well as a nutrition curriculum for Family Medicine Residents at the East Carolina University School of Medicine. With her career underway, an unexpected meeting with Wayne Langley at their 25th class reunion at Acadia University changed everything. The two fell in love, Susie returned to Canada, got married, then embarked on a one-month honeymoon traveling around the world. On their return, Susie established her own private practice as a dietitian. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre.
