Sitalakshmi (Sita) Ramanujam passed away on July 27, 2026, at the age of 88, at Kensington Gardens in Toronto. Born on May 10, 1938, in Nellore, India, to Sabena Samavedam and Major S. Samuel Ramanujam, she went on to earn an MA in history, economics, and politics at the University of Madras. After moving to Canada in 1967, she spent most of her life in the Annex neighbourhood in Toronto. Sita had a distinguished career focused on human rights and labour issues, notably serving as the Senior Compliance Coordinator at the Ontario Human Rights Commission.
