Joseph Makkai (Joe)

Joseph Makkai, also known as Joe, passed away unexpectedly on March 25, 2026, at the age of 72. He was the beloved husband of Gwen Makkai, to whom he was married for 45 years, predeceased. Joe was the loving father of Dave, married to Roxanna, Amanda, married to Shawn, and Adam, married to Deanna. He was a cherished grandfather to Victoria, Cameron, Britney, Jacob, Katelyn, Dominic, Ryan, and Sarah, and a great-grandfather to Carson and William. Joe was also a dear brother to Irene and John, who is married to Laurie. After retiring from Stelco Hilton Works with over 30 years of service, Joe spent 10 years working as a flatbed tow operator. He enjoyed spending time with his family and helping those he cared about, and he especially loved going on hunting trips with family friends and dogs. In keeping with Joe's wishes, there will be no funeral, and cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
