JAMES CHARLES HUGHES

JAMES CHARLES HUGHES passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026, at the age of 82, surrounded by family at Michael Garron Hospital in Toronto. He was the beloved husband of Virginia (nee Nobert) for 59 years. James was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Mary (McQuillan), his son Stephen (deceased 1967), his daughter Jacqueline (deceased 1970), and his brother-in-law Howard Nobert (deceased) and Jack Priestman (deceased). He is lovingly remembered by his children Jim Jr. (Laura), Denise (Aubrey Gonsalvez), Michael, and Jennifer. James was a proud grandfather of Emily, Ben, Rebecca, Jesse, Ryan, and Henry. He is also survived by his sister Patricia Jacobs, and his brother-in-law Wayne Copeland, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the doctors and staff of St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto General Hospital, and Michael Garron Hospital for their life-saving efforts and compassionate care over the last 18 months. Relatives and friends are welcomed to Heritage Funeral Centre, 50 Overlea Boulevard, Toronto, on Sunday, May 24th, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Paul's Basilica, 83 Power Street, Toronto, on Monday, May 25th, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Toronto. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choosing would be appreciated.
