Gay (Gabrielle) Claitman passed away on May 17, 2026. Born in Wallasey, England, she moved to Canada at the age of 4. Gay was a feminist, comedy and fiction writer, good friend, and lifelong learner. She was a founding member of The Jest Society, the precursor to the Royal Canadian Air Farce, and won two ACTRA awards for the radio play Lies my Mother Told Me. Gay was an active member of her synagogue, politically involved, and a wonderful mom to Sabrina and Josh, daughter-in-law to Rachael, grandma to Noah, and dog mom to Xena, Doxie, and Tonya. She was also the wife of Kent Bowman. A celebration of her life will take place on Monday, July 5th from 5-8 p.m. in Toronto. Please contact sgbowman@gmail.com for service details.
