CATHERINE ELSPETH SHTERN

Catherine Elspeth Shtern (nee MacLean) passed away on May 1, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on August 21, 1947, in Medicine Hat, she spent her childhood in Winnipeg and Montreal. She attended McGill and then the University of Toronto, earning several degrees and settling in Toronto with her husband, David. She was a high school history teacher in her early career, before joining the Ontario civil service, where she worked for two decades. She will be missed by her husband, David; children, Jeremy (Stephanie) and Laura; and grandchildren, Benjamin and Jacob. She was predeceased by her parents, George and Catherine MacLean; and her brother, Donald MacLean. A Celebration of Life will be held on June 20, 2026, at 11 a.m., at Glen Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery.
