BIBHAS DAMODAR VAZE
Bibhas Damodar Vaze, age 51, passed away suddenly on May 3, 2026, in Toronto. He is survived by his mother, Pratibha; sister, Bageshree; niece, Kalashree; nephew, Vihaan; and brother-in-law, Vineet. Bibhas was born in St. John's, NL and graduated from Prince of Wales Collegiate. He received a B.A. (Hons.) in Political Science from the University of Toronto, a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of British Columbia and a Master of Laws (LLM) from Columbia Law School. As a defence attorney, Bibhas fought selflessly for justice for the underprivileged in complex cases of civil forfeiture, animal rights, racial profiling, prisoners' rights and justice for Indigenous communities. Bibhas had an incredible passion for music - he was proud to be named after the unique Indian classical raga. Bibhas will be remembered for his wealth of knowledge about politics, philosophy and history. Bibhas will be missed for his exceptional sense of humour, especially his comedy sketches of characters like Ricky Rainforest and Jeb Krishna.
