BETTY BURTON
Betty Burton, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on May 13, 2026. Born during the depression, Betty grew up in downtown Toronto, where her family faced poverty and hardship. She later became a proud University of Toronto graduate and dedicated teacher, defying stereotypes and racism while teaching math to high schoolers in East York. Betty was a lifelong fan of the arts, enjoying the music of Frank Sinatra and attending performances by the TSO, the ballet, Stratford, and Shaw. She was also famous for her baking, particularly her 30 varieties of Christmas cookies. Betty shared a deep bond with her family, including her father, sister, and husband, Bernie, whom she was married to for 67 years. Predeceased by her husband, Betty will be deeply missed by her family for her warmth, love, and generosity of spirit.
