Melvin Joseph "Mel" LORENZI

Melvin Joseph 'Mel' LORENZI passed away on June 26, 2026, at the age of 93, to join his daughter Jo-Anne (1956) and his grandson Michael (1992). He was the loving father of Debbie and Charlton and Rick and Teresa, devoted grandfather of Ashley, and great-grandfather of Nico. Mel was predeceased by his parents, Biagio (1969) and Emma (1994), and his brothers Alfred (2010) and Carlo (2024), as well as his wife Val (2021). Before his retirement, Mel was a licensed plumber with Mark Kriluck Plumbing and Heating Unlimited in Thorold for 11 years. He and his father built and opened Lorenzi's Restaurant, which was later joined by his brothers. Mel was president of the family-owned business and built a motel beside it, creating the new Lorenzi's Restaurant and Motel. Mel was an active member of the Thorold Kiwanis, the Thorold Chamber of Commerce, and the Thorold Business Men's Club, and was the bandmaster of the Thorold Canadian Corps Black Knights Trumpet Band. After leaving the family business, Mel became a licensed real estate agent with Canada Trust, then returned to the restaurant business with his wife Val, building and operating Sir Winston's Restaurant and Dining Lounge. At Mel's request, there will be no visitation, and cremation has already taken place. He will be laid to rest with his daughter Jo-Anne at Victoria Lawn Cemetery in St. Catharines, with a private family inurnment to take place at a later date. If desired, memory donations may be made to a charity of choice.
