MARY ELIZABETH LAVERTY (SISTER ST. RICHARD), CJ

Sister Mary Elizabeth Laverty, CJ, passed away peacefully at Presentation Manor on June 11, 2026, at the age of 106. She was in her 107th year of life and 87th year as a member of the Congregation of Jesus. Sister Mary was predeceased by her parents, Peter Laverty and Bridget Hourigan, her brothers, Msgr. Fergus, Fr. Bernard, Leonard, John, and Wilfred, her niece, Bernardine Nicholson, and her nephew-in-law, Hans Caro. She is survived by her nephew, Bernard, her niece, Lois Garland, her nephew-in-law, Ron Nicholson, as well as grand and great-grandnieces and nephews. Sister Mary spent many years teaching in elementary schools in Ontario and served as treasurer in several local Loretto community houses. In 2018, she moved to Presentation Manor. Visitation will be held at Presentation Manor Chapel on June 22, 2026, at 9:30 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery.
