Mr Richard Walter Filek

Richard Walter Filek, a resident of Sault Ste. Marie, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2025, at the age of 90 at the Sault Area Hospital. Born on January 1, 1935, to Sophie and Frank Filek, Richard was a graduate of Sault Technical High School and the Provincial Institute of Trades, now known as George Brown College, where he obtained his Class A Automotive Mechanic's Licence. He married Joan Fewchuk on November 14, 1959, and together they enjoyed 66 years of marriage, raising three children: Steven, Gregory, and Marnie. Richard's career began as an apprentice mechanic at Boston Brothers GM, later co-founding Filek Brothers Transmission and opening two Midas Muffler locations. He was also a proud member of the 1951-1952 Sault Rapids Ontario Championship Juvenile Hockey Club. Richard is survived by his wife Joan, children, grandchildren, and extended family, and was predeceased by his two brothers and sister-in-law. A Celebration of Life will be held at Northwood.
