She was predeceased by her parents, Murray and Ruth (nee Devlin) McGee; her brother, Murray McGee; and her beloved husband, Daniel McCarthy (2013). She leaves behind 7 children, Josie Morrison (Dr. David Morrison), Paula McCarthy, Dr. Susanna McCarthy, Dan McCarthy (Sylvie Boucher), David McCarthy, Dr. Marta McCarthy (Randy Smith), and Matt McCarthy (Erika Berenz). MarySue's grandchildren were the source of great pride, including Dr. Alastair Morrison (Jacklin Weatherill), Daniel Morrison (Gabriella Goutam), Dr. Mary Morrison (James Ewing), Olivia McCarthy (Daniel Charron), Kate Ladas (Tyler Ladas), and Julia McCarthy. Her great-grandchildren, Zoey Ladas, Charlotte Morrison, and Seamus Morrison, were the joy of her life. MarySue began her professional career as a marriage counsellor with Richmond Hill Family Services and travelled North America giving speeches on communication, equality, and healthy relationships. She became a founding Professor in the Faculty of Education at York University, devoting over 25 years of her career to the success and well-being of her students and the University. MarySue saw education as a vocation, inspiring her students to become leaders in curiosity, thought, and authenticity. The summit of her career was marked by her appointment as Master of Vanier College, and the establishment of the 'MarySue McCarthy Bursary' for Faculty of Education students with academic promise and financial need, now an annual tribute to her lasting legacy.
