George Edwin Macdonald passed away peacefully on Monday, March 23, 2026, at the age of 84, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by love, care, and compassion. He was born on October 7, 1941, in Port Colborne. George is survived by his loving wife, Annie, of 47 and a half years; his daughter, Penny Ervin (Doug); and his cherished grandchildren, Stephanie and Brenden Ervin. He will also be deeply missed by his stepdaughter, Ruth Ann Leonard (Jim), and her children, Mandi Boss and Timothy Minou, along with his great- and great-great-grandchildren. George is also survived by his sister, Lynda Gare (Charles), and was predeceased by his brother, William (Bill) Macdonald. He will also be fondly remembered by his beloved companion, Purdie. George proudly served his country in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1962 to 1965 aboard the H.M.C.S. Chaudière. He was a dedicated member of his community, serving as President of the Port Colborne Canadian Corps Unit #43 for five years and maintaining active membership in the Port Colborne Legion. For 38 years, George took great pride in his work as a greens and maintenance keeper at the Port Colborne Country Club. He truly loved his time at the club and had a deep passion for golf. George was an avid NASCAR fan and a lifelong supporter of the Detroit Red Wings and the New York Yankees. In the warmer months, he especially enjoyed spending time fishing.
