Rev. Barbara Josephine "Jo" MEWETT
Rev. Barbara Josephine 'Jo' MEWETT passed away at Princess Gardens on Thursday, June 11, 2026, in her 94th year, at the age of 93. Born on October 30, 1932, to Frances Perry (née Forte) and Clyde Norman Heather in Auckland, New Zealand. After being ordained into the ministry of the United Church of Canada in 1985, Jo served as the minister at Queen Street United in Lindsay, Ontario, and Knox United in Peterborough, and, after retirement, was deeply involved in the ministry at Trinity United Church in Peterborough. Jo was predeceased by infant daughter, Josephine; brother, Timothy (Tim) Heather; and husband, James (Jim) Webster Mewett. Loving mother of Jennifer Barter (Brian), James Mewett (Lesley Wimbush), Alison Mewett (Will Marsh), and Karyn Mewett (Kent Smith). Beloved Granny of Heather Deremo (Dave), Derek Barter (Elena), Matthew Mewett, Katherine Mewett, Rachel Sim (Adlai Arnold), Cameron Sim, Grace Mewett Smith, Ellis Mewett Smith, and Dylan Mewett Smith; and great-grandchildren, Liam, Jessie, Mikayla, Jake, Cove, and Charlotte. Jo will be sadly missed by her sister, Winis McColl; extended family in New Zealand and Australia; by her many friends; and by her special caregivers, Lisa Sedgwick and Moira Gale. A funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 24th at 2:00 p.m. at Westdale United Church, 1509 Sherbrooke Street, Peterborough. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Camp Kawartha or One City Peterborough.
