Walter Douglas Mingie

Walter Douglas Mingie passed away on September 6, 2026, at the age of 100. He is survived by his six children: Pat (Gord Oliver), David (Gail), Brian (Brenda), Donna (Tim Cahill), Barbara (Roger Glidden), and Susan (Marc-André Lussier), along with eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy. Walter was predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Nancy (nee Calder), and two grandchildren, Carolyn and Jeffrey Oliver. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Walter JE Mingie, and siblings Joan Binmore and Dr. Peter Mingie. A proud graduate of McGill University, Walter had a distinguished teaching career and was a passionate member of the 1946 McGill Hockey team. He dedicated much of his life to outdoor education and camping, serving as Camp Director of Camp Carowanis for fourteen years. His legacy of learning and love for the outdoors will be cherished by all who knew him.
