Age 83
Ottawa, Ontario

Roland Madou passed away peacefully on August 27, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He requested that they not mourn his departure, as he believed he had lived the most beautiful life one could dream of. His wife, Julie, along with their three children, Valérie, Gaëtane, and Pierre, and six grandchildren, Mathieu, Mélodie, Nicolas, Max, Morgane, and Sarah, deeply mourn his loss. Grateful for his life, Roland cherished his nearly 59 years of marriage to Julie, demonstrating to their family that love and tenderness can endure a lifetime. His passion for mathematics, instilled by his maternal grandfather, led him to a distinguished international career as an actuary and business leader after studying at the Université Libre de Bruxelles and completing a fellowship with the Canadian Institute of Actuaries. He worked in Brussels, Montreal, and Paris before settling in Ottawa, his favorite city. Known for his sincerity and unwavering principles, Roland was unafraid to express his opinions, as evidenced by his numerous letters and articles. A history enthusiast, particularly of New France, and a lover of the French language, he used his writing to advocate for causes dear to him, especially the defense of Franco-Ontarians. In recognition of his contributions, he was honored as a Knight of the Order of La Pléiade and received the Diamond Jubilee Medal from Queen Elizabeth II.
