MARY JANE SINCLAIR

Mary Jane Sinclair (nee Tocher) passed away in Ottawa on May 30, 2026, at the age of 77. She was born on June 28, 1948, to Dr. Jonathon (Jack) Sinclair and Isabel Tocher Sinclair in Toronto, Ontario. Mary Jane graduated from North Toronto Collegiate Institute in 1967. She went on to attend the University of Toronto, earning a degree in Honours History, followed by a Master of Library Science (MLS). Mary Jane lived and worked in New Brunswick for several years. Mary Jane pursued a legal degree at the University of Western Ontario, resulting in a job placement in Ottawa: she researched briefs for the Supreme Court of Canada. Outside of work Mary Jane loved travelling, and she was a voracious reader. She was predeceased by her parents and by her younger brother, Jonathon. She is survived by her cousins, Beth Tocher Bullock, Linda Tocher Koeslag, Liz Sinclair Clemens, and Sue Sinclair Bowerman. As per Mary Jane's wishes, cremation has taken place. Interment will take place at a later date at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto. Arrangements are entrusted to Hulse, Playfair & McGarry.
