Irene (née Karras) STEWART

Irene Stewart (née Karras) died peacefully at Post Inn Village in Oakville, Ontario, on August 2, 2026, at the age of 89. Born in Spy Hill, Saskatchewan, on January 3, 1937, she was the beloved wife of Duane Stewart, to whom she was married for 65 years. She is survived by her daughters Carol (married to Richard), Dana (married to Elizabeth), Sheri (married to Mauro), and her son David, as well as grandchildren Lauren (married to Grant), Sarah (married to Christopher), Emma and Dawson. Her sister Marilyn (married to Wally) of Vernon, British Columbia, and sister‑in‑law Tannis of Kamloops, British Columbia, also survive her. Irene was predeceased by her brothers Herb (2017) and Clarence (2020), sister‑in‑law Alice (2025), and her first husband Donald Waby of Revelstoke, British Columbia (married 1959). After moving to British Columbia in 1944, she excelled in school athletics and later supported her husband’s military career while raising four children across Canada. In 1978 she joined the founding team of women at Mary Kay Cosmetics Canada, serving 20 years and attaining the rank of Senior Sales Director before retiring in 1998. She was an active member of Glen Abbey United Church, chairing numerous committees. Irene enjoyed gardening, travel, summers at Mabel Lake, golf and basketball.
