Bhajan Shoan (Ben)
Bhajan Singh Shoan passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026, at the age of 86, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in 1940 in a small village, Tajpur, in Ludhiana, Punjab, Bhajan overcame humble beginnings through determination, education, and an unwavering belief in hard work and faith. He became the first member of his family to earn a Master's degree at Punjab University and later travelled to the UK to earn a Master's degree in Food Science from the University of Reading. In the early 1970s, he was encouraged by a friend to immigrate to Canada, where he settled and built a life defined by resilience, perseverance, generosity, and devotion to family. Over time, Bhajan helped his siblings and extended family establish their lives in Canada and proudly make Oakville their home. Together with his beloved wife of 53 years, Mohinder, he built a close-knit family and community grounded in compassion, opportunity, and service to others. He was a proud and loving father to Kiran, Raj, and Hary, and an adored grandfather to Arjun, Olivia, Xander and Ashton. Bhajan believed deeply in giving back to the community and tirelessly advocating for the underdog. He was a pioneer in the Sikh community, helping to establish both Sikh gurdwaras in Oakville and Burlington and provide a welcoming place of worship for all newcomers. For nearly 40 years, he and Mohinder supported the Oakville Hospital Foundation, beginning with their first donation in 1986. In 2025, the Shoan family made a transformational gift to Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital — the largest donation in the Foundation's history from a member of Oakville's South Asian community. The gift reflected Bhajan's enduring gratitude for Canada, for Oakville, and for the hospital where his children and many members of his extended family were born. Bhajan will be remembered for his cheerfulness, strength, humour, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to helping others. He took immense pride in the success and happiness of his family. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Glen Oaks Funeral Home.
