Catherine Isabel SPENCE

Catherine Isabel Spence (nee Downer) passed away on July 26, 2025, at the age of 89, at Pine Meadow Nursing Home, Northbrook. Born on February 9, 1936, she was the daughter of the late George and Dorothy Downer (nee Sage) of Peterborough, Ontario. She was the wife of the late Bernard Lloyd Spence. Catherine is survived by her siblings, Carol Richard (Larry) and Susan White (late Ron). She was predeceased by her brothers, Terry (late Carol) and Butch Downer (late Brenda); and sisters, Joyce Syers (John) and Beverly Biggs (late Terry), all of Peterborough. Catherine and Bernard resided in Oshawa with their children, Cheryl Miles (Dwayne), the late Terry Spence (Susan), Brian Spence (Sandy), Linda Hamilton (Randy), and Wendy Spence (Shane Gylytiuk). She is loved by her grandchildren Kyle, Melissa, Jessica, Courtney, Shawna, Lauren, Sarah, Matthew, Cheyenne, Brooklyn, Jordan, (the late Benjamin), and 9 great-grandchildren. A Graveside Committal Service will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 12:30 p.m., at Oshawa Union Cemetery, 768 King Street West, Oshawa, ON (Thornton entrance), with a light luncheon to follow at 45 Hawke Drive, Omemee, ON, for anyone in attendance. If desired, donations may be made to Jays Care Foundation or the Salvation Army.
