Verna SOHM
Verna Annie Louise Sohm of South River passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026, at the age of 83, surrounded by family and her dear friend Faye. She is survived by her sister Lorna Dennis (late Stuart), brother Mervyn Sohm (Micheline), sister Elaine Sohm, and sisters-in-law Thelma and Rosemary. Verna was predeceased by her brothers Bruce, Doug, and Keith Sohm. She shared a close bond with her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends, all of whom will miss her dearly. A dedicated employee of North Bay Hydro, Verna took pride in having more retirement years than years of service. Born on June 22, 1942, she was a prominent member of the South River Curling Club and various bridge clubs. Verna was known for her love of farming and her efforts in organizing the Canada Day fireworks at Eagle Lake. A memorial service will be held on May 29, 2026, at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 467 in Sundridge, with visitation from 2 to 3 p.m. and the service at 3 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Little Paws Pet Rescue or the Cancer Clinic at Huntsville District Memorial Hospital. Arrangements are entrusted to Opatovsky Funeral Home-Moore Chapel.
