Donald James SHANKS

Donald James Shanks passed away at Eventide Nursing Home in Niagara Falls on May 26, 2026, at the age of 99. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Shirley, and his eldest daughter, Ronni Dingwall. He will be sadly missed by his daughters, Deborah Shanks and her husband Ray Lozano, and Cynthia Reid and her husband Brian. Donald was a loving grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle to many. He was a past member of the Niagara Woodcarvers Association for many years and was very active at Stamford Lane United Church, where he participated in the choir, men's club, and Tri-M Club. From 1953 to 1985, Donald was a teacher with the Niagara District School Board, serving as vice principal and principal, and finishing his career at Heximer Avenue Public School. After his retirement, he started Don's Lock & Key Service. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Stamford Lane United Church on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., with a visitation starting at noon. Donations may be made to Eventide Nursing Home or Stamford Lane United Church.
