Shirley Mary Goebel

Shirley Mary Goebel died peacefully at Margaret Bahen Hospice in Newmarket, Ontario, on August 11, 2026, at the age of 96. She was the first child of Mary and Frank Barker, born in 1930, and the eldest of four sisters. Shirley trained as an Operating Room Technician at Freeport Sanitarium in Kitchener and spent roughly 25 years working at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kitchener. She married Ward, who predeceased her in 2011, and together they designed and built two homes and a cottage. In retirement she pursued quilting, gardening, skiing, and travel, and remained active in reading and current affairs. She is survived by her three children—Gavin, Gayle and Craig—and their spouses and children: grandchildren Andrea and Ian (Gayle’s children John), and Braedon and Connor (Gavin’s children Chrisa), as well as five great‑grandchildren, four from Andrea and Chris and one from Ian and Laura. Predeceased by her parents and sister Patricia Boyer, she is also survived by sisters Phyllis Donnell (deceased) and Craigen Howey. A funeral service will be handled by Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home.
