BERL THOMPSON

Berl Thompson passed away peacefully, surrounded by family members, on March 7, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on October 7, 1933, in Strangroen, British Guiana, South America, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Dr. Douglas Thompson, whom she married in 1961. Berl lived in the Greater Toronto Area, including Newmarket, Ontario, for the remainder of her life. She was a proud graduate of Bishop's High School in Georgetown, British Guiana, and later earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics from York University. A devoted Catholic and active member of her community, she was also a member of the North Toronto Business and Professional Women's Club. Berl was known for her extraordinary generosity and commitment to helping others. She was a dedicated volunteer with the Kidney Foundation of Canada, where she received multiple awards over the years for her outstanding volunteerism. She also supported Homeward Family Shelter in Toronto, helping provide necessities for women and families in need. Her home was a welcoming haven for many, particularly newcomers arriving from Guyana and across the Caribbean. Berl loved gardening, cooking, entertaining, and singing. She was known as a wonderful host and an excellent cook whose home was often filled with conversation, laughter, and music. Arrangements are being handled by Taylor Funeral Home and Cremation Centre.
