Pometia Martin (née Nairn) passed away on April 8, 2026, at the age of 78. She died peacefully in Barrie, Ontario. Pometia was predeceased by her husband, Hugh Allen Martin (2013), her sister, Leeshka Nairn-Gomes (2002), and her parents, Donald Nairn (1973) and Jean Nairn (née Ometuck, 1972). She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Rachel and Sarah Martin (Patrick Girard); her grandson, Justin Martin; her sister, Janissa Nairn Smith Williams; and her nephews, Williams, Jordan, and Nicholas. Born in Peterborough, Ontario, Pometia spent her early years in various locations, including Winnipeg and Toronto, before settling in London, Ontario, where she attended Western University and earned a degree in English Literature. She met her husband, Hugh, in London, and they married in 1975. The family later moved to Sudbury, where Pometia worked in journalism for The Sudbury Star and devoted herself to raising her daughters and volunteering for organizations such as the Canadian Cancer Society and the Sudbury SPCA. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Peaceful Transition - Newmarket.
