Alva Crawford (nee Cormack) passed away on May 31, 2026, at the age of 107. Born on February 1, 1919, in Arthur, Ontario, to parents Lottie and Henry A. Cormack, Alva was the youngest of nine children. She is survived by her children Margaret ‘Peggy’ Simionati, Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Smusiak, Gordon ‘Gord’ Crawford, and daughter-in-law Debra Crawford; her grandchildren and their spouses Sima and Trevor Haarsma, Nathan and Kristin Crawford, Cameron and Sharon Couzelis, Cara Smusiak, and Steven Michael Smusiak; her great grandchildren Alexandria Couzelis and Calysta Couzelis; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and -nephews, and great grand-nieces and -nephews. She is predeceased by her husband William ‘Bill’ Crawford, her husband Reginald Vivian Crawford, her sons-in-law Italo ‘Bud’ Simionati and Steven Smusiak, and her siblings Edna Cormack, Evelyn Hawkins, Mary Allen, Irene Evans, Lorne Cormack, Mervin Cormack, Albert Cormack, and Gordon Cormack. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at St. George’s Anglican Church, 9 Granville St., in Barrie, Ont. Visitation will immediately precede the service, beginning at 1 p.m. in the church’s Memorial Hall.
