Cynthia Patricia Hamlyn, born on November 4, 1951, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the Margaret Bahen Hospice in Newmarket, Ontario on April 9, 2026, at the age of 74. She is survived by her sisters, Janet Paonessa and her husband Gino Paonessa, and Caara Kardell, her children, David Hodgson, April Lafreniere and her husband Scott Lafreniere, her grandchildren, Coby Lafreniere and his partner Cho Ting Mok, and Jesse Lafreniere, and her step-grandchildren, Makalya Blake, Carson Blake, and Rieley Blake. Cynthia was predeceased by her father William Dawson, her mother Iris Dawson, and her brother Bruce Dawson. Born in St. Thomas, Ontario, Cynthia lived in many places in Canada before moving to Parry Sound, Ontario, where she resided for the last 30 years. She worked as a high school teacher until her retirement. A devoted Christian, Cynthia attended the Bayside Family Church in Parry Sound. After retirement, she was a member and president of the seniors centre in Parry Sound for many years. Cynthia enjoyed spending time at her summer trailer, where she created wonderful memories with her family and friends over 20 years. She loved bingo, reading, swimming, and spending time with her family and friends. A funeral will be held at the Bayside Family Church in Parry Sound, Ontario, on April 16, 2026, at 11:00 am. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Stronach Regional Cancer Centre or the Margaret Bahen Hospice.
