ROBERT JAMES (BOB) McGAUGHEY
Robert James (Bob) McGaughey passed away peacefully at Trillium Long-Term Care in Kingston, Ontario on August 9, 2026, at the age of 83. He was the beloved husband of Elva McGaughey, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage. Bob was a devoted father to Andrew McGaughey and his wife Janette, and to Jane McGaughey and her husband Thomas. He was also a loving grandfather to Grady and Eric. Bob is survived by his elder brother, Jack; his cousin, Donna; and his sister-in-law, Helen. Born in Arvida, Quebec, Bob was raised in Pembroke and went on to attend Queen's University in Kingston, where he earned his Honours Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education degrees. He had a distinguished teaching career, serving as a teacher at Northview Heights Secondary School in Toronto and as the head of history at Ernestown Secondary School in Odessa, Ontario. After retiring, Bob worked as an Adjunct Professor at Queen's Faculty of Education. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Lindsey Griffith and the staff at Trillium for their kindness and compassion. A private cremation will be held, followed by a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Kingston Frontenac Public Library's 'Honour with Books' programme or to a charity of one's choice.
