Kathleen Marjorie Dewey, known as Kate, passed away on June 23, 2025, at the age of 82. Born in Beeston, England, Kate was raised in Eastwood and Bilborough, Nottinghamshire, and later attended Mundella Grammar School in Nottingham and York University and Leicester. She took great pride in her Eastwood heritage and was a descendant of Arthur 'Tater' Leivers and cousin of the funeral director William Leivers. Kate became an Art Teacher and taught in various locations, including The Bahamas, California, New Zealand, Hucknall, and Canada, where she settled for over 40 years. She was passionate about teaching art and was very active in her community, campaigning to protect the Sand Dunes near her home in Tiny Township, Ontario. Kate continued to teach High School, became a Yoga and Pilates instructor, and served as a Health and Safety Officer with Peel School Board and OSSTF local for secondary occasional teachers in Simcoe County well into her 70's. Kate is survived by her nieces, Sarah and Elizabeth, their mother, Marion, and Lucy the cat. She also leaves behind deep long-term friendships with Janet Herron, whom she met over 40 years ago, and the Trivedi family, whom she considered her chosen family in Canada for the last 22 years. A Celebration of Life will take place on September 13, 2025, in Brampton. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations are welcome at the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), Mouth and Foot painting, Indigenous Girls, and Operation Eyesight.
