JAMES "JIM" ALEXANDER BRIERLEY
James 'Jim' Alexander Brierley passed away on August 10, 2026, at the age of 73, in Newmarket, following a brief illness, with his wife Katherine 'Kate' and their dog Alfie by his side. Born on September 14, 1952, in Toronto, Jim was predeceased by his parents Frederick 'Fred' and Annie Margaret 'Peg', as well as his first wife Gail. He is survived by his wife Kate, brother John, children Mark, Michael, and Stephen, and grandchildren Thomas and Abigail, as well as Kate's children Jake and Jessica Bartlett. Jim had a distinguished career, graduating from the University of Waterloo and working at Munich Reinsurance Company until his retirement in 2007. He served in various leadership roles, including president of the company's Canadian and Caribbean operations and chairman of the board of its US subsidiary. Jim was also a dedicated member of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, serving on its governing council and as president. He was an avid golfer and member of Beacon Hall and the Loxahatchee Club in Jupiter, Florida. Jim will be remembered for his laugh, smile, and friendships. Visitation will be held at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre in Toronto on August 18th.
