GERRI HERTA STEINBACH

Gerri Herta Steinbach (nee Flitner) passed away on June 18, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on July 4, 1938, in Leipzig, Germany, she later moved to the small village of Willershausen. In 1957, at the age of 19, she immigrated to Canada, where she met her lifelong friend Rita Hoffmann. Gerri married Klaus Steinbach in 1959, and they had three children together. Her mother, Herta, joined the family in Canada in 1969. Gerri pursued a teaching certificate in Early Childhood Education and Child Psychology at Humber College and went on to teach Behavioural classes at elementary schools in Etobicoke. She was a fierce competitor in board and card games, especially Scrabble, and was known for her sharp intellect and passion for language. Gerri and her family formed close friendships on Silverstone Drive and co-owned a lodge in Northern Ontario with other families. She was generous with her hospitality and shared her life with numerous dogs, cats, and other animals. Private services will be held.
