Turner & Porter

Armin Egmont Samuel Bruer was born on January 15, 1929, and died peacefully in his sleep on August 12, 2026, at the age of 97, while residing at a long‑term care facility in Mississauga. He was the second child of Egmont and Elfrieda (née Schroeder) and grew up in New Hamburg, Ontario, recalling the Nith River, St. Peter’s, the town square and Derby Days throughout his life. After a planned entry to a Lutheran seminary was deferred, he began a banking career with the Canadian Bank of Commerce that spanned nearly 48 years, concluding with retirement from CIBC Head Office in 1990. In 1954 he married Erma Alberta Berggren; together they raised three children—Robert, David and Ruth—in Mississauga. He was survived by his children, grandchildren Sarah, Anne, Myles, Lindsay and Brandon, and great‑grandchildren Adalynn, Kai, Logan and Lyla. A lifelong Lutheran, he held leadership positions at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Port Credit and served the English District. His community involvement included more than four decades with the Lions Club, serving as District Governor in 1994‑1995. He enjoyed annual moose hunts with his brother Hap, son David and grandson Myles. Visitation will be held at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Port Credit, on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. The family requests that any donations be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be submitted through the Turner & Porter memorial website.
