Sister Theresa (Shirley) PIVA

Sister Theresa Piva passed away on May 17, 2026, at the age of 89. Born in New Waterford, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia in 1937, she was the daughter of the late Rizieri and Amalia Piva. Sister Theresa was predeceased by her sisters Regina and Reginetta, and by her brother Geno and his wife Margaret. She is survived by her brothers Leno and Sylvio, and will be remembered with love by many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and the members of her religious family. Sister Theresa was proud of her Italian heritage and her Maritime connection. She began her ministry at Mount St. Joseph Orphanage in Hamilton, and later worked in various roles, including as a housekeeper, child care worker, and volunteer. Due to health problems, Sister Theresa's life as a Sister of St. Joseph took a new direction, but she maintained her cheery disposition and spent hours in prayer.
