Lloyd John Robertson, 92, passed away peacefully at his home on the evening of August 4, 2026. Born in Stratford, Ontario, he was the younger of two sons of Lilly Francis and George Henderson Robertson. He began his broadcasting career in 1952 at CJCS Radio in Stratford and joined the CBC in 1956. After anchoring The National from 1970 to 1976, he moved to CTV, co‑anchoring the national newscast and later serving as Chief News Anchor and Senior News Editor of CTV National News from 1983. His tenure made him North America’s longest‑serving national network news anchor, a distinction celebrated by industry peers. He married Nancy Barrett in 1956; the couple marked their 70th wedding anniversary on July 14, 2026. He is survived by his wife Nancy, their four daughters—Nanci Lee Hester, Susan Robertson, Lynda Robertson‑Goudy, and Lisa Robertson—seven grandchildren and a great‑grandson, as well as his niece Norma Hankinson and the daughters of his late brother Gordon, Bonnie Lee Pincock and Mary Susan Robertson. He was affectionately known as "Dad‑Dad" by his grandchildren.
