Jean Marie (nee Murphy) WATKIN
Jean Marie Watkin passed away on May 2, 2025, at the age of 87. Born in Northwest Cove, Nova Scotia, to Ausman and Hazel Murphy, Jean was the sister of the late Harold Murphy and the late Vincent Murphy. She attended secondary school in Wolfville and Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, and later studied nursing at the Halifax Infirmary. Jean's nursing career spanned over 50 years, with a particular focus on palliative home care. She married Murray Watkin in 1961 and spent 27 years as a military spouse, raising three children and caring for countless others. Jean later settled in Newmarket, Ontario, where she met Joe Sammut, her partner of 18 years. She is survived by her children, Marilee Stevenson, Julie Watkin, and Eric Watkin; her grandchildren, Alexander Stevenson, Kendra Stevenson, Olivia Watkin-McClurg, and Billie Watkin-McClurg; and her great-grandchildren, Senna and Sylvie. Jean's family is grateful for the care provided by Dr. Aaron Pellow and the teams at Saint Elizabeth Healthcare and Southlake Regional Health Centre.
