Maria "Mary" REKMAN

Maria 'Mary' Rekman passed away peacefully on May 21, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on August 30, 1933, in Nieuwerkerk aan de IJssel, the Netherlands, as Maria Kapteyn, she immigrated to Canada with her parents and six siblings at the age of 16 to the Thedford area. She spent her early years in Canada working as live-in house help in Sarnia. In January 1954, she met her husband, Cas Rekman, at an evening church service, and they were married in September of the same year, sharing a marriage of deepest respect and love for nearly 40 years. Mary had seven biological children and seven by marriage, all of whom knew how deeply they were loved and cherished. She is survived by her children, who will remember her gifts of baking, meals, and wise words that pointed them to Jesus. Many will also remember her kindness, hospitality, and the abundance she offered with joy. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Cas Rekman.
