Marie Ferguson

Marie Ethel Elizabeth Ferguson passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026, at the age of 89, at The Regency of Lakefield. Born on June 15, 1936, at the Nicholls Hospital in Peterborough to Harold and Lula Bowler, Marie graduated from PCVS in 1953 and began her career at Elliott and Chandler Law Office on her 17th birthday. Marie married Don Ferguson on September 6, 1958, at St. Albans Church. After raising their three children, she returned to work at Howell Fleming Law Office where she worked for many years until the typewriter was replaced by a computer. Marie and Don spent their retirement travelling with friends and enjoying cottage life on Paudash Lake where they created cherished memories together for almost 60 years. Marie loved a good get-together including family reunions and celebrations, reunions with the class of 53, and happy hours at the lake. Pre-deceased by her husband Don (2018), Marie was the loving mother of Laurie Farthing (Graham), Greg Ferguson and Kim Ferguson (Richard Horner). Fondly remembered by Betty Anne Ferguson. She was the proud Grandma of Brendan Cook (Jess), Jeff Farthing (Amy), Mark Farthing (Erin), Thunder Ferguson (Maddie), Jake Ferguson (Alana), Charlie Horner (Hyun), Abbey Horner (Megan) and was thrilled to be a Great Grandma to Millie Farthing. Dear sister of Jean Holding, the late Gail Hill and the late Barbara Whatman (the late Ken). Sister-in-law to the late Verla Clark, Carol Gibson (the late Jack) and brother-in-law Bob Ferguson (the late Carole). Dear Aunt to many nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by her many friends including lifelong school chums Martha Bentley (Doug) and Mary Bullied (Gord) whom she treasured and were a great support to her. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff and residents at The Regency of Lakefield for making her last 3 years full of fun, fitness and friendship. We thank Dr. Millar for a lifetime of care and compassion, Dr. Sharif for facilitating quality of life in her final years.
