John YAN

John Wing Yan passed away peacefully at home on March 19, 2026, at the age of 80, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, May; his daughters, Julie, Cheryl, and Cynthia; and his three grandchildren, James, Charlie, and Georgie. He is also survived by his sister, Mui-Ling Mo; his nieces, Jennifer and Susan; and his nephew, Jonathan. He was predeceased by his parents, Bing Yuen Yan and Wai Kau Tam. Born in 1946 in Taishan, Guangdong, John later settled in Toronto and then Waterloo. He dedicated over 40 years to public health, serving Waterloo Region and Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph. John was deeply committed to the community, contributing to the Central Ontario Chinese Cultural Centre and serving as principal for several heritage language schools. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 3, 2026, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 4, from 9:30-10:15 a.m. at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener. A service will follow in the chapel at 10:30 AM, with reception and interment at Parkview Cemetery.
