Frances Jane Schneider

Frances Jane Schneider passed away on August 4, 2026, at the age of 96. Born to Jemima and Ervin Cressman, Jane was the sister of Mark and Graham. She grew up attending Stirling Avenue Mennonite Church in Kitchener and became a Grade 1 teacher due to her love of children. Jane met her husband, Fred Schneider, on a skating date at Victoria Park, and after marrying, she dedicated herself to teaching and nurturing their family. Jane and Fred shared a love of music, nature, and adventure, often spending summers at their cottage on a Georgian Bay island and skiing at Chicopee Ski Hill. Jane was an avid hiker and skier, exploring the trails on their property until her 90s. She and Fred donated their land to the rare Charitable Research Reserve, now known as Schneider's Woods, to be accessed by the public. Jane also campaigned to establish an Environmentally Sensitive Landscape in Waterloo, conserving farm and natural land. She is survived by her children, Peter, Dan, Anne, Peggy, and Tom, as well as their spouses, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Jane was predeceased by her husband, Fred, in 2011.
