George Clark

George Clark, Professor Emeritus of English at Queen's University, passed away in the early hours of July 28, 2026, at Kingston General Hospital, following a brief illness. He was 94 years old. George is survived by his sons, Erec Njal Clark of New York and Alan Edwin George Clark of Kingston. He earned an M.A. from Berkeley and a Ph.D. from Harvard, teaching at the University of Texas and the University of Wisconsin before joining Queen's in 1965. An esteemed scholar, he specialized in Anglo-Saxon and Old Norse literature, publishing numerous articles and a book on Beowulf. A celebration of his life will be held on September 3, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at The Robert J. Reid Funeral Home, 309 Johnson Street, Kingston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The David Suzuki Foundation, Oxfam, or a charity of choice.
